About The SMB Tool
The SMB Tool is a compliance tracking platform for small businesses in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. It consolidates every filing obligation a business faces — state, federal, city, and industry-specific — into a single dashboard with automated deadline reminders so nothing falls through the cracks.
Who it's for
Small business owners, solo entrepreneurs, and multi-business operators in the Pacific Northwest who need to stay on top of compliance without hiring a dedicated compliance team. Whether you run an LLC in Seattle, a sole proprietorship in Portland, or a corporation in Boise, The SMB Tool maps the obligations that apply to your specific situation.
What it tracks
The platform covers federal obligations (IRS filings, BOI Report, estimated quarterly taxes), state-level requirements (annual reports, B&O tax, sales tax, employment filings), city-specific taxes and business licenses across 170+ cities, and industry-specific permits across 18 industries. Each obligation includes its due date, frequency, estimated fee, filing link, and the official government source URL.
How it works
During onboarding, you enter your business details — entity type, state, city, industry, and number of employees. The SMB Tool matches your profile against its database of compliance obligations and builds a personalized calendar. You receive email reminders at 30, 7, and 1 day before each deadline, with customizable timing and quiet hours.
Key features
Beyond deadline tracking, the platform includes compliance document storage for tax filings, licenses, and permits; contractor and 1099 management with W-9 collection and misclassification risk assessment; insurance and bonds tracking with renewal alerts; a business formation wizard with step-by-step checklists; annual compliance reports with risk scoring and peer benchmarking; a scenario planner for "what if?" analysis when expanding or changing your business; and multi-business support for owners managing several companies from one account.
Data quality
Every obligation is sourced from official government agencies and linked to its source URL. The team uses automated monitoring to detect when source pages change, tiered re-verification schedules to keep data current, and accepts user accuracy reports. When an obligation is updated, affected users are notified automatically.
Pricing
The SMB Tool is free during beta. After launch, plans start at $14.99/month for a single business or $29.99/month for multi-business support. The compliance calculator is always free — no account required.
